KFI - Transforming Youth Financial Literacy &
Emotional Intelligence

KFI was created with a very different take on financial education for young learners. Instead of teaching finance like a textbook, the idea was to build an app that connects money habits with emotions and confidence. Most teenagers don’t relate to interest rates or budgeting charts, but they understand how it feels to spend, save, fail, achieve, or compare themselves to friends. KFI wanted a platform that respected that emotional side.

Promatics stepped in to turn that idea into a mobile app that students could understand and enjoy. The app had to feel friendly and motivating, not academic or heavy. So the design focused on short lessons, rewards, small reflections, and nudges that encourage consistency. The final product mixes micro-learning, mood tracking, journaling, and challenges — all packaged inside a clean and playful interface.

The Challenge

Building an app for teenagers is never just about features. Attention spans are short, expectations are high, and if something feels boring, users drop off fast. KFI needed a learning journey that students could complete without feeling like homework.

Another challenge was personalization. Students from different grades, backgrounds and confidence levels would use the same app, so the system had to adjust the difficulty, tone, and pace without overwhelming anyone.

On top of that, institutions needed structured onboarding, time-limited access codes, and a secure environment, because these weren’t random public users — they were minors logging in through schools.

Promatics kept all this in mind while designing the learning flow, the onboarding, and the engagement logic.

Prominent Features

freehand

Code-Based Onboarding

Students don’t sign up freely. Schools hand out unique codes, and each code has an expiry and grade mapped to it. Promatics built this so institutions stay in control and onboarding feels organized, not chaotic.

freehand

Micro-Learning Journeys

Instead of long chapters, students get tiny lessons that take a few minutes. They swipe, tap, answer small prompts, and move forward. When they complete a module, confetti and badges celebrate progress. The idea was to make learning feel like a series of wins instead of tasks.

freehand

Cost Tracker

In between lessons, students quickly log small expenses — snacks, travel, online purchases — just to see how tiny decisions add up. It’s simple on purpose. The goal is awareness, not accounting.

freehand

Startup Experience

When a student opens the app for the first time, the interface walks them around with little animations and hints. No one has to figure things out alone, which reduces drop-offs.

freehand

Personalized Introduction

Students set goals and confidence levels at the beginning. The app uses this to adjust tone and pacing. A shy or unsure student shouldn’t receive the same experience as a confident one.

freehand

Mood & Confidence Tracking

Every week, the app asks how they feel and how confident they are about decisions. Some students write long reflections, others just move the sliders. Both help educators understand trends at a class level without exposing private details.

freehand

Friend Challenges

Students can challenge their friends to finish modules faster, or simply keep streaks alive. It turns learning into a social interaction rather than a solo routine.

freehand

Nudge System

If someone disappears from the app for a few days, teachers can send gentle nudges: reminders, encouragement, sometimes simple motivational messages. Many users return because it feels personal, not automated.

freehand

Activity Dashboard

Institutions see overall activity — completion rates, mood patterns, engagement levels. Promatics designed it so teachers can intervene early if needed, and celebrate small wins with students.

Outcome

KFI became more than a financial lesson app. Students reported that the reflections helped them understand why they spend emotionally, not just how. Schools liked that lessons were short enough for morning periods or self-study time. The mix of finance and emotional intelligence gave the platform a unique identity, and teachers appreciated having visibility into learner engagement without invading privacy.

Promatics built the foundation in a modular way, so KFI can add new missions, journals, or behaviour tasks without redesigning the system from scratch.
