Catalysk - Empowering Everyday Sustainability
through Behavioral Change
Catalysk is a sustainability initiative that wanted people to understand their environmental footprint in simple, day-to-day terms instead of long scientific explanations. The vision was not to lecture users about climate change, but to show how small household habits—fans, taps, bulbs, commuting—add up.
When Catalysk approached Promatics, one requirement stood out immediately: the platform had to run only on mobile browsers. No desktop screens, no heavy installations, not even an app store download. The reasoning was straightforward—people usually read their bills or check appliances while holding a phone, not a laptop. So Promatics designed a mobile-first PWA that feels like an app but opens like a webpage.
The final product was a lightweight sustainability companion that helps users calculate their electricity, water and commute usage, see the impact in relatable visuals, and slowly change habits through small nudges
The Challenge
There were a few challenges hiding beneath the surface. The biggest one had nothing to do with coding—it was about human behaviour. If you ask people to type long numbers or specifications, most will abandon the process halfway. Promatics had to figure out a way to collect data without exhausting users.
Another challenge was corporate adoption. Catalysk wanted organizations to onboard employees and run sustainability campaigns internally. That meant multi-tenant architecture, dashboards, leaderboards and group reporting, all inside a mobile browser.
On top of that, the platform needed to feel friendly and casual. People shouldn’t feel like they were studying for an exam about electricity usage.
Promatics spent a good amount of time thinking through these behavioural details. The technical side followed after.

Mobile-Only PWA
There is no installation screen or app store step. Users open a link and go straight in. Promatics designed the interface so a person can scroll, tap, upload a photo or view a chart comfortably on a phone. This was crucial because most sustainability tools online are desktop-heavy.
Sustainability Quests
To avoid long form-filling, Promatics created step-by-step quests that feel conversational. “How many fans?” “LEDs or CFLs?” Each answer updates the user’s footprint instantly. People finish before they realize they’ve shared usable data.
Impact Reports People Can Relate To
Instead of saying “420 litres wasted,” the report might say, “roughly equal to 3 full tanks of water at home.” That was intentional—numbers do not influence behaviour, relatable examples do.
Product Catalogue
The catalogue shows sustainable alternatives like BLDC fans or aerators with cost and energy savings. It’s not a marketplace—just real recommendations for users who want to act instead of only reading.
Challenges, Sparks & Leaderboards
Corporate users can join challenges, earn Sparks and compare scores. Some companies use this to create friendly rivalry between teams, which surprisingly increases participation.
Multi-Tenant Dashboard
Individual users see their personal savings, while companies get aggregated reports. Promatics built this so Catalysk can onboard hundreds of users at a time without losing structure.
OCR Bill Upload
Typing meter data is boring. Uploading a photo is easier. Promatics used Google Vision to read most bill values automatically, and users edit only if needed.
Subscription & Renewal
UPI and QR payments keep the process simple. Renewal reminders appear before expiry, so nobody gets locked out unexpectedly.
Outcome
Catalysk turned into a practical sustainability tool instead of a theoretical one. Early users reported that they finally understood how much water or electricity their homes were wasting because the visuals made sense. Corporate teams enjoyed the challenges and began using the platform for internal engagement as well.
Promatics’ decisions around mobile-only access, light UI, small tasks, and human-friendly reports gave the platform everyday usability. As of now, Catalysk can expand into new sustainability categories without rebuilding the core system.
